New Garden M is a longtime fixture in the Rowland Heights area, offering a take on Chinese dining that balances familiar comfort with fresh, well-executed flavors. Located on Colima Road, this spot feels approachable whether you’re popping in for a quick lunch or settling in for a larger family meal.

The atmosphere here is practical and unpretentious, with touches of living greenery and small animals adding a subtle, homey vibe to the space. It’s the kind of setting where you can bring a group and feel comfortable amid casual decor rather than worrying about formality. That said, the restaurant’s interior could benefit from some upkeep—the dining surfaces and turntables show signs of wear that are noticeable during busier meals.

The menu leans into classic Chinese and Korean-Chinese favorites, making it a go-to place for dishes like jjajangmyun (black bean noodles) and spicy seafood soups. Portions are generally on the generous side, which fits well with group dining or celebratory occasions. For lighter meals or lunch, their smaller servings provide a satisfying balance without feeling too heavy. Some standout options include the House Special Seafood and the sweet garlic fried shrimp, which come across as fresh without being overly salty—a detail appreciated by locals mindful of after-meal heaviness.

New Garden M’s staff leave a strong impression: they come across as attentive and welcoming, especially during larger gatherings. Service tends to be friendly and accommodating, helping with everything from menu suggestions to managing bigger parties, which explains why many locals choose this spot for milestone celebrations or group dinners. The occasional slip-ups during service, like spills or slow cleanups, don’t overshadow the generally good care felt by diners.

This restaurant fits best into occasions where you want reliable, hearty dishes and a familiar, no-fuss setting. It's popular with regulars who appreciate consistency in food taste over decades and newcomers exploring Chinese-Korean fusion dishes. Visiting during lunchtime or early dinner means a quieter experience, while larger parties or weekend evenings bring a livelier, bustling energy.

For anyone in the area looking to share big plates around the table, or craving less salty, more balanced Chinese dishes with attentive service, New Garden M offers a straightforward local spot that respects both tradition and a practical dining experience.

The food here is so good and so fresh. I also really appreciate that it's not overly salty so you don't feel terrible afterwards. They also have live plants and animals which is a great touch for decor. The owner and workers are all so nice and accommodating. I'm really impressed with their party services. I had my baby's first birthday party here and it was worth every penny. SO MUCH FOOD!!

We went here for a celebration party and had a 12 course banquet. The food portions were generous and we had a nice variety of food. The atmosphere was okay but the restaurant could use a deep cleaning and some updating. The lazy Susan was sticky and definitely needed to be cleaned or replaced. When the server was dishing out the soup, he spilled a lot of it on the lazy Susan and didn't bother cleaning up liquid so the dishes that came out were sitting on top of the soup liquid. I liked the noodles, black bean fish, orange chicken, beef dish, broccoli, Mabo tofu and the bread. The pork dish was okay but I wasn't that fond of the sauce. For dessert they served orange slices and caramelized sweet potato which was very tasty. We had soup, rice, noodles, chicken, fish, pork, broccoli, Kim chi, green beans, beef dish, scallops with asparagus, Mabo tofu and Chinese bun and dessert. It was a ton of food and there was lots left over at our table. It was a nice and fun celebration.

I’ve had the same types of dishes (jajjangmyun, tangsuyuk, mapo tofu) at many other chinese/korean places and new garden’s take on these dishes is super flavorful and distinct. I heard this place is under new management and a new menu, and I have to say the service and staff was awesome and the food was delicious. Will definitely be back.

I went with my coworker for a quick lunch of jjajangmyun and jjamppong. Their small portions are perfect for a quick bite. The quality of food and taste has been consistently good for over 30 years.

We had a group of 11 people dining here today, and it was everyone’s first time visiting this restaurant. From the portion sizes to the flavors, every dish received unanimous praise. A special shoutout to Roger, our server, who was incredibly attentive and fun. He noticed every detail, kept refilling our water glasses, and made sure we had everything we needed throughout the evening. Even though we stayed and chatted for quite a while, he remained friendly and thoughtful the entire time. It’s rare to experience such excellent service in a Chinese restaurant! The chef also did a fantastic job—every dish was delicious and beautifully prepared. We’re so happy to have discovered New Garden as a wonderful new spot for gatherings with friends. We’ll definitely be coming back!

I recently had the pleasure of dining at NEW GARDEN M, and it quickly became one of my favorite spots in the area. From the moment I arrived, I noticed how convenient the location is—there’s plenty of free parking, which already takes away the stress that often comes with visiting popular restaurants. Once inside, I was greeted warmly by the staff. The server was incredibly kind, attentive, and genuinely welcoming, setting the tone for an enjoyable meal. Throughout the dining experience, service remained consistent—water was refilled promptly, and every request was handled with care and a smile. Now, onto the food—which is the real highlight. The 간짜장 (ganjjajang) here is outstanding. The noodles are perfectly cooked with just the right chew, and the black bean sauce is rich, savory, and well-balanced. You can tell it’s made with care and skill—it’s not overly oily or heavy, but instead has that deep, comforting flavor that makes you want to savor every bite. Another standout dish is their 맛탕 (candied sweet potatoes). This is often a tricky dish to get right, but NEW GARDEN M absolutely nails it. The sweet potatoes are lightly fried to achieve a crisp exterior, then coated in a glossy, slightly sticky syrup that gives just the right level of sweetness. Every bite has a perfect crunch, followed by soft and fluffy potato inside. It’s the kind of side dish that could easily steal the spotlight. Overall, the combination of excellent food, generous parking, and top-notch service makes NEW GARDEN M a place I highly recommend to anyone looking for quality Korean-Chinese cuisine. Whether you’re stopping by for a casual meal or planning to bring family and friends, this restaurant delivers in every way. I’m already looking forward to my next visit.
